Building Regulations Part L1B - Material Change of Use.

Our fully certified and accredited assessors provide SAP calculations for dwellings created by a material change of use of the building (Conversion) using software packages such as JPA Designer to complete SAP calculation in line with Building Regulations Part L1B

Change of Use is defined as;

 

1- A building is to be used as a dwelling where previously it was not

2- A building contains a flat where previously it did not, e,g. conversion of area above a shop to a flat

3 - A building contains a greater or lesser number of dwellings than it did previously, e.g. a house being split into flats

A SAP calculation can be used for dwellings created by a change of use. This is achieved by using Building Regulations minimum standards to create a "Notional" Assessment standard for the dwelling.  Once complete a "Proposed" Assessment is produced utilising the identified materials and building elements. When the calculated carbon dioxide emission rates from the "Proposed" Assessment is lower that the "Notional" Assessment compliance is achieved.
